Computering!

A friend just sent me this , I don't know who wrote it and I hope they won't mind if I show it to you. It really sums up how I feel.

I  asked the Lord to tell me
Why my house is  such a mess
He asked if I'd been  'computering',
And I had to answer  'yes.'

He  told me to get off my butt,
And tidy up the  house.
And so I started cleaning up...
The  smudges off my mouse.

I  wiped and shined the topside.
That really did  the trick...
I was just admiring my good  work.

I  didn't mean to 'click.'

But  click, I did, and oops - I found
A real  absorbing site
That I got SO way into it  -
I  was into it all night.

So nothing's  changed except my mouse.
It's as shiny as the  sun.
I guess my house will stay a  mess.....
While I sit here on my  bum.

  2. Just as I was getting ready to put the computer on 'hibernate' and 'get off my bum' to clean the kitchen, I saw the title of your new post (on a sidebar blogroll) and just HAD to click. Then I howled with laughter!!! Always nice to have a shiny mouse and NO guilt whatsoever about not cleaning the house! (For some reason the picture has one of those 'x's.)

Always enjoy your blog - very informative and covering many subjects. After reading about the wood bench, I think I'll stick with my plastic one (I'm sure you're gagging)!

Glad you had a chance to review Angeline's book! I'm a proud owner of a Second Edition, which I received in 1994, complete with a handwritten note from Angeline to my sister-in-law, as the book was a gift for me (requested via the family Christmas grab bag).

In the note (equally as precious as the book - complete with tatted butterfly and daisies in the corner!!!!) Angeline explains: "I am having trouble getting them bound fast enough to keep up with orders. Just had my 84th birthday so I am slower than I used to be."

I about fell over when I read that, especially since she in fact did hand bind them herself!!!! In the Preface for a Second Edition she states: "Again, I have prepared the copy for an offset printing, gathered, sewed, and hand-bound each book in my home." This just overwhelms me! Can you imagine hand-binding all these books?!!! And the Second Edition at age 84?!!! It's absolutely mind-blogging. Mine is in a locked cabinet and carefully stored! It is so wonderful of Fox to share hers!

Guess I'll get off my bum now!! Oh, wait! I see another site . . . .!!!

  3. If I thought too deeply about this, I would begin to remember the lectures on Humour I sat through in Philosophy aeons ago. It's "almost" not funny.....because it's so bitingly true.
A few months ago I became aware that I was really wasting huge chunks of my time at the computer, both in reading blogs and lists, and also in tatting. I was in danger of placing too much emphasis on tatting - I made a conscious decision to stop immediately! - just because it had assumed an unbalanced degree of importance in my life, and that wasn't good.I will not allow it to take over my energies again, with the same level of intensity I had given to it.
I can identify with the shiny mouse, though, my grandson has been here before school this morning, and now the mouse is all sticky.....

  5. Oops ... of course you had to 'click'. You were just testing the mouse that you had just cleaned to make sure it is working properly.

    LOL! Love this one.

  6. Wow, that poem pegged me perfectly today!

But isn't this why we have machines that wash amd dry our clothing and our dishes for us, floor-cleaning robots, pets who clean up the spilled crumbs and such from the table...?

I'm sure my husband would say that the whole reason I am at home is to clean house and enable him to put his feet up!

    Just one more click...LOL!
