Christmas starts here for me. Bit late checking in today's snowflake. It's 7pm and I have just got home from taking the Brownies to the pantomime...oh I loves the panto.
It was raining when we went in soaked and still raining when we came out. There is a minor flood warning for the city for high tide tonight in about half an hour. there are going to be a lot of people not in their own homes for Christmas.
We have a beautiful Victorian Theatre. It opened it's door in 1897 and today is elegantly restored with it's ornate gold and red boxes and plush seating.
There were over 650 children and leaders from Ladybirds, Brownies, Guides, Beavers and Cubs, on the ground floor and balcony.
We were only 5 rows from the stage, so close that a couple of Brownies caught sweets thrown from the stage.
It was the best pantomime ever, the acting and the singing were great. Aladdin gave a wonderful performance and so many actors were familiar including our fabulous dame who has entertained up for so many years.
There is always such a lot of audience participation and I came home with 'Oh no it isn't!' ringing in my ears.
Every year I plan to retire. In Feb 2010 I will have been a Brownie leader for 30 years! That's a good time to quit...while I am ahead and still standing....but....the kids are lovely and it will be like shutting a door on a part of my life.....so I can't bring myself to carry out my decision!!
Back to the snowflake! from 24 Snowflakes in Tatting by Lene Bjorn
This is a very pretty snowflake and easy to tat. So pretty that I did tat it twice, but I will show you the second one tomorrow...when I have more time.
this one was tatted in Altin Basak another little used one from my stash.
It measures 9cm
Thread amounts
Altin Basak 50 (like a 30) Sh 3.25m, Ball 5.75, total used 9m.
To make up for not showing you the second snowflake yet...here is another Day 3 for your enjoyment...I hope.
See ya tomorrow!

Ahhhh.....there is the Rainbow Bright! You had me worried for a minute! Actually, the Altin Basak in this colour looks very snowflake-y, and it's a pretty one for today.
ReplyDeleteAs one door closes....perhaps you can keep your involvement up in a less "hands-on" way with your beloved brownies
Pretty! Pretty! Pretty! I love them both! Thanks to your wonderful instructions, I am doing well with Third Day of December. Now all I need is more than 2 or 3 minutes at a time to work on it!
ReplyDeleteWhat a stimulating environment for children! Love those old theatres that tweak the imagination. No wonder you are loathe to leave it behind, with yearly outings like this!
ReplyDeleteLove the Rainbow Bright, always!
Fox : )
I especially love those old theaters - how fun!
ReplyDeleteI really love that fluffy center in the snowflakes. They are all very pretty, no matter what color :)
Oh, how sweet! I was a brownie! That theater looks glorious! WOW! It looks like a gorgeous building! I love things from the Victorian Era. It must be a delightful experience to see performances there.
ReplyDeleteYour snowflakes are beautiful! What a cute idea that you are doing those snowflakes from Lene Bjorn's book! I have the same book, but written in Danish. I thought it would be neat to have one in Danish and you can still see what the stitch counts are in the diagrams.
These are very pretty too! I can't wait to see tomorrows snowflakes =) You must tat very fast. I am still very slow at it.
ReplyDeleteHi Maureen, Nope I can't stay away from it for long.
ReplyDeleteHi Diane, glad that they worked, most things are easy once you know how. Hope to save anyone who wants to do them from the hard slog!
Hi Fox, yup it's such a lovely theatre, brought right up to date and so comfy. I so love the panto with the kids, no other excuse now that ours are all grown.
Hi A Happy Bluebird, thanks for stopping by and taking the trouble to comment, it means a lot to know my pots haven't just disappeared into cyber space.
Hi Chic, you a Brownie cool...and you remember, so many of mine have forgotten!
I have Tatted handkerchiefs in Danish, haven't used it tho!
Hi Paula, yup I do tat fast, like a maniac at the moment!
30 years as a Brownie Leader?! Once again you show me what a wonderful person you are. I'm sure you've inspired more than 1 Brownie to become a leader in life. Thank you for that. And for sharing more lovely tatting with us!
ReplyDeleteAW Bonnie Thank you for all these lovely comments, I can almost feel you reading all the posts, my ears are burning!
